Stuart Tipton papers, 1935-1981.

Collection contains a small amount of business correspondence concerning Stuart Tipton's service with the Air Tranport Association of America. Stuart Tipton wan an aviation attorney and airline industry executive during the twentieth century. Tipton was born in 1911 and earned his law degree from Northwestern University Law School. He became a lawyer for the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of General Counsel in 1936, where he became an authority on aviation law. On November 3, 1958 the six airlines filed an agreement with the Civil Aeronautics Board which provided for certain mutual assistance in the event of a strike against one of them. The carriers still operating would make monthly payments of the increased revenues (less added direct expense) to the carrier which was shut down.
